Jonathan P. Neiderhiser, D.M.A.
Professor, Director of Instrumental Music
Dr. Jonathan Neiderhiser is a conductor, scholar and performer whose work encompasses a wide range of activities and genres. He serves as Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music at the University of Sioux Falls.
Prior to his position at USF, Neiderhiser held positions as Lecturer of Fine Arts -- Music at Bethany College in Bethany, W. Va., and as Adjunct Professor of Ensembles at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he served as Associate Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, and Contemporary Ensemble.
At USF, Neiderhiser has expanded the instrumental ensembles to include Pop Blues and Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and the Cougar Pep Band. He has also served as orchestral director for numerous musicals and composed music for the Theatre Department's production of "The Pilgrim's Progress." Beyond the music department, he has led courses in the University's Writing and Intellectual Traditions sequence as well as classes within the Honors Program.
Outside of his duties at USF, Neiderhiser serves as Music Coordinator and organist at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and hornist with the Sioux Falls Municipal Band. He has filled in as a substitute hornist with the South Dakota Symphony on several occasions, and is active as a freelance musician in the area.
Neiderhiser received both his Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance and his Master of Music degree in Music Theory from Duquesne University. He received his Doctor of Music degree in Performance -- Conducting from West Virginia University.
