USF’s Accelerated Nursing Program is an intensive B.S.N. degree program, with your nursing courses offered in a compressed time frame and format.

Classes start every January. USF accepts Accelerated Nursing Program students once a year, with a new group of nursing students starting classes each January. In just 4 semesters (spring, summer, fall, spring) of accelerated nursing classes, you can change your career and become a Registered Nurse with a B.S.N. degree. USF’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) Program Prerequisite Courses

Before beginning the USF Accelerated Nursing Program, students need to show proof of successful completion of these college-level prerequisites (earning a C- or better). Students are encouraged to apply to the program even if all the prerequisite courses have not been completed.

Anatomy with a lab

General Chemistry I with a lab or Intro to Chemistry with a lab

Physiology with a lab

General Chemistry II with a lab or Organic/Biochemistry with a lab

Microbiology with a lab

General Psychology

Nutrition

Developmental Psychology or Family Development Course

USF’s Accelerated Nursing Program faculty and admissions counselors can help you assess your past college courses to use toward satisfying these prerequisites. USF evaluates the recency of these courses on an individual basis.

Students who plan to enroll for prerequisite courses at USF are required to complete the Pre-Professional Nursing Application for Admission. Students taking six or more credits may be eligible for financial aid while working on their prerequisite courses.

USF’s Accelerated Nursing Program Admission Requirements

You are eligible for consideration into USF's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree program, if you meet the following criteria by the start of the program:

  • You have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field of study.
  • You earned a minimum of 2.75 cumulative GPA from all previous college courses.
  • You earned a minimum of 2.75 GPA in the required Accelerated Nursing Program prerequisite courses, noted above.
  • You’ve completed the Accelerated Degree in Nursing application for admission.
  • You’ve submitted three professional references.
  • You’ve passed a comprehensive background check.
  • You’ve provided proof of English proficiency (if applicable).
  • In some cases, you may be asked to complete an on-campus interview prior to admission to USF’s Accelerated Nursing Program.

Students can apply to the Accelerated Nursing program before graduating. If you do not meet all of the above criteria, you are encouraged to contact nursing@usiouxfalls.edu to discuss eligibility options. 

Early Admission Policy 

Students may be eligible for early acceptance into the Accelerated Nursing Program if they have met the following requirements:

  1. A cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 3.5 (at time of review).
  2. A minimum of three science prerequisite courses complete. The prerequisite science courses are: BIO 302, BIO 314, BIO 315, CHE 121, and CHE 122 (or equivalent).
