Art students serve community through ReStorAtion Art Auction

Associate Professor of Art Ceca Cooper’s sculpture class is serving the community through Habitat for Humanity’s ReStorAtion Art Auction.

According to Cooper, students picked out items from Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore to repurpose into works of art that will be sold at the auction. This is the second time Cooper’s class has participated in this event.

“Students had a great time sorting through Habitat’s resale store and came back to campus with old tiles, wooden columns, tables, electrical boxes and various small objects such as bolts, hinges and light fixtures,” said Cooper. “These items will be part of the live auction, with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.”

The goal of the auction is to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing for families in Sioux Falls.

“Our students are really excited to see how their pieces sell,” said Cooper. “They are happy to be a part of a big fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity, recognizing the need for affordable housing right here in our own community.”
