Dr. Brett Bradfield selected for national leadership development program
July 5, 2016
The University of Sioux Falls is pleased to announce that Dr. Brett Bradfield, provost and vice president for academic affairs, is one of 23 senior-level administrators in higher education nationwide selected to participate in the 2016–2017 Executive Leadership Academy (ELA). The Academy is co-sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI). The ELA was developed as a response to addressing increasing needs for highly qualified executive leadership in higher education across the nation.
Individuals chosen for the year-long program are vice presidents or cabinet-level officers in higher education who demonstrate the knowledge, skills and dispositional attributes to assume executive leadership roles, including that of the presidency, within the enterprise of higher education. Dr. Bradfield will participate in two seminars in Washington, DC; the opening seminar will take place July 11–13, 2016, and the closing seminar will be held June 19–21, 2017. During this 1-year experience, he will engage in readings, webinars and other professional development activities focused on enhancement of existing leadership skills necessary for success in executive leadership positions.
“Competition for the available places in the program was intense,” said CIC President Richard Ekman. “The review committee found the nomination materials to be most impressive. They (and I) believe that Dr. Bradfield is a highly qualified executive administrator who could provide effective leadership for any institution in the rapidly changing environment of higher education.”
Since its inception in 2009-2010, many of the ELA participants have moved to a variety of executive level roles with colleges and universities across the nation.
“These indicators suggest that CIC is helping to meet the leadership needs of higher education by offering highly effective leadership development programs for modest fees to member institutions,” said Ekman.
