USF hosts largest JazzFest Summer Camp to date
July 13, 2017
University of Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blue’s Society have partnered up this week on the USF’s campus to host 63 talented high school musicians for the JazzFest Jazz Camp July 11–15. This year marks the largest camp to date.
"JazzFest is one of the premier events on the arts calendar in Sioux Falls, and I am honored and excited to be assisting with this year's camp,” said Jonathan Neiderhiser, director of instrumental music and area chair of visual performing arts at the University of Sioux Falls. “It's a privilege to host such a great group of talented high school musicians, and I look forward to hearing them rehearse and perform on campus at USF and on the main stage at JazzFest this Saturday.”
Student musicians experience five days at the University of Sioux Falls of rehearsals, masterclasses and performances, which lead to a performance on the big stage at JazzFest this Saturday.
“One thing I love about JazzFest Jazz Camp is the atmosphere,” said Roger Frank, a high-school student participating in the camp and who is a jazz drum-set player from Gregory. “Everyone that is here, is here to make great jazz music.”
The public is welcome to take in the great jazz music at the following performances:
- 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 13 at USF’s Meredith Auditorium
- 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 at JazzFest in Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls
