Lace up your shoes and join Team USF on May 13 for the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer. The USF Student Nursing Association invites the entire USF family—not just those affiliated with the School of Nursing— to walk and run together against this prevalent disease.

“Since approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer, most of us know someone who has been touched by this disease,” said Associate Professor of Nursing Cheri Kovalenko, who is coordinating USF’s team.

This race provides an opportunity for all Cougars—students, faculty, staff and alumni and friends of the university—to join together and raise awareness and funds to benefit cancer patients and their families in the Sioux Falls community.

Team members can choose from a 5K or 10K run, or a less intense 1.5- or 3-mile family fun walk.

“Having a race to train for can be motivating and can encourage us to be active and to help friends and family to do the same,” Kovalenko said.

Joining the team costs $35, and all of the money raised goes to improve cancer care right here in the greater Sioux Falls community.

Those interested in joining Team USF or donating to the cause can register here before May 7. For those racing, be sure to choose “individual packet pick-up”, the times for which can be found here

All Team USF participants are encouraged to wear purple on race day and meet at the northwest corner of the Avera Fitness Center, 3400 S. Southeastern Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57103, at 7:35 a.m. for a team photo.
