USF statement on tragic car accident involving two students
April 1, 2018
The University of Sioux Falls community is deeply saddened by news of a tragic accident involving two of its students and members of the football team.
Junior Courtney Beane of Oakland, California, and junior Jared Brito of Covina, California, were in a car accident Sunday. Beane has passed away and Brito is hospitalized with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
Beane was a junior business administration major, and Brito is a junior biology major.
“This is a difficult day for our campus, and we are praying for the families of Courtney and Jared,” USF President Brett Bradfield said. “We are reminded that faith is at the center of our campus community, and we will be here for one another.”
A grief counselor will be made available for the campus community including fellow students, friends and teammates.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Courtney’s and Jared’s families,” USF Head Football Coach Jon Anderson said. “I extend my sincerest condolences to Courtney’s family. We are truly heartbroken, and our team is distraught about Courtney and praying for Jared’s recovery. Courtney was not with us long, but he very quickly found his place in this program. Our team is a family, and we will be here for each other during this difficult time.”
