Renowned literacy speaker Jill Eggleton returns to Sioux Falls
February 8, 2018
Registration opens this week for the Jill Eggleton Institute presented by the University of Sioux Falls Center for Professional Development on June 11–14. The dynamic, four-day institute will take place on USF’s campus, helping educators prepare for effective literacy learning.
“This institute will focus on what really matters,” said keynote speaker Jill Eggleton, who is an international literacy consultant and author from New Zealand. “What really matters is engaging students regardless of their backgrounds and what resources a teacher has to draw on.”
Interactive sessions will cover topics including knowing your learner, understanding the stages of reading and writing, conferencing and dialogue, asking effective questions and more.
Eggleton has been sharing her joy and enthusiasm for learning with Sioux Falls for more than a decade.
“Whether attending for their first time or their fifth time, teachers tell us they leave ready to passionately engage children in the love of literacy,” said Dr. Rachelle Loven, an education professor at USF. “I have attended the institute every time Jill has come to Sioux Falls and look forward to the rejuvenation, growth and reflection she fosters.”
Attending the institute is not only a valuable way for educators to learn effective tools that address the current trends and needs within education but also a way to earn college credit or up to 30 hours of continuing education credit.
The institute will be held in the Salsbury Science Center on the USF campus June 11–14 with sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The conference fee is $335 with a $100 deposit at the time of registration.
