South Dakota History, a peer-reviewed journal published by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press this month published a history of University of Sioux Falls—then called Sioux Falls College—from 1953-1978. USF historian and professor Dr. Stephen Jackson, who authored the piece, chose to study this time frame because it captures one of the most prosperous moments in the institution’s history, as well as challenges posed in the years directly following when “7 buildings in 7 years” were built.
“USF’s history is filled with times of growth and times of struggle, and the 1950s-1970s exemplified both. The challenges and opportunities of the period produced the recognizably modern physical campus and institutional culture of USF today,” Dr. Jackson said.
